This picturesque district, renowned for its rolling hills & dense forests is captivating filmmakers with its unparalleled natural beauty and serene landscapes. However, in recent years, it has emerged as a sought-after filming location, drawing major production houses and acclaimed directors from across India. From South Indian blockbusters to Odia cinema, Koraput’s enchanting vistas are stealing the spotlight.
How is Koraput Faring as a Fim Shooting Destination in Odisha?
Koraput’s allure lies in its lush valleys cradled by dense forests, cascading waterfalls, and the majestic Deomali peak, Odisha’s highest at 1,672 meters. These elements create a magical backdrop, especially during winter when misty mornings add a mystical charm to the scenery. This natural splendor has not gone unnoticed by filmmakers.

In February 2024, the district played host to the shooting of Ghaati, a big-budget multilingual film featuring popular South Indian actresses Anushka Shetty and Ramya Krishnan. The crew utilized stunning locations such as Deomali, Jeypore, Lamataput, and Kolab to capture the district’s breathtaking landscapes. Key scenes were filmed on Jeypore’s main road, Surya Mahal, the Jayanagar locality, and a park near Jagannath Sagar, with the entire cast and crew stationed in Jeypore town.

Fast forward to March 2025, and Koraput is set to welcome another cinematic milestone. Acclaimed filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s production house has secured permission to shoot a major feature film from March 1 to 28, starring South Indian superstar Mahesh Babu and Bollywood icon Priyanka Chopra. The film will be shot in and around Deomali and other scenic spots in the district. Naga Pranit, the production manager, highlighted Koraput’s appeal, stating, “The beauty of Koraput, its climate, and attractive locations drew us to this wonderful place. We are hopeful of shooting a significant portion of our film here.” This follows Rajamouli’s location scouting trip to Semiliguda in December 2024.
Why Koraput Stands Out as Preferred Destination for Movies?

Koraput’s unique natural landscape makes it irresistible to filmmakers. The district boasts an array of picturesque locations: Deomali’s rugged treks offer panoramic views of the Eastern Ghats, while Kolab’s serene streams and waterfalls provide tranquil settings. These sites have been meticulously captured in films pleasing audience worldwide.
Moreover, Koraput’s infrastructure supports large-scale productions. During the Ghaati shoot, the crew booked an entire hotel in Jeypore until February 14, 2024, accommodating the cast and crew seamlessly.
