Odisha has set a new benchmark in India’s drone industry by launching India’s First Drone Centres of Excellence. The state has introduced the country’s first Drone Centres of Excellence (CoEs), positioned in the tribal-rich Kalahandi district. This initiative, driven by Member of Parliament Sujeet Kumar under the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), showcases Odisha’s commitment to fostering innovation and skill development in drone technologies.
Inauguration of Drone Centres of Excellence in Odisha
Under the backing of the Sansad Adarsh Gram Yojana (SAGY), these centres were inaugurated in the Gram Panchayats of Sagada and Bhatangpadar. This pioneering step was made possible through a collaboration between parliamentarian Sujeet Kumar and IG Drones, a Gurugram-based company known for its AI-powered drone solutions. Kumar contributed ₹10 lakhs from his MPLAD funds to support this venture, aiming to bridge the skill gap in drone technology among the tribal communities.
Drone Technology as a Catalyst for Change in Odisha
The launch of the Drone Centres of Excellence Odisha aligns perfectly with the broader vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047. By focusing on skill development, these centres are set to transform the lives of many in these rural areas. The initiative is poised to expand from the current 27,000 drone operations in India to over one lakh, creating substantial economic opportunities.
Drone Centres of Excellence in Odisha Creates Global Impact
At the local level, the initiative is a beacon of hope and empowerment. The tribal youth and women, particularly through the ‘Drone Didis‘ initiative, are now gaining access to skills that were once beyond their reach. This not only aids in agricultural advancements but also in various other sectors where drone technology can be applied.
On a national scale, these centres contribute significantly to the growth of the drone industry, supporting the government’s goal towards self-reliance and comprehensive development by 2047. The initiative is a testament to how technology can be leveraged for inclusive growth, enhancing both local and national economic landscapes.
The Role of IG Drones in Drone Centres of Excellence in Odisha
IG Drones, under the leadership of Bodhisattwa Sanghapriya, plays a crucial role in this project. They are responsible for bringing advanced, made-in-India AI technology to these rural areas, thereby not just educating but also opening up employment avenues for the trained individuals. The involvement of IG Drones ensures that the skills imparted are directly relevant to the industry’s current needs, thus facilitating job placements.
Insights on Drone Usage in Odisha
Currently, India stands at around 27,000 drone operations, with aspirations to scale this number significantly. The investment of ₹10 lakhs in these Drone Centres of Excellence Odisha is a clear indicator of the potential seen in drone technology for economic transformation. With this initiative, Odisha could become a pivotal hub for drone technology innovation, mirroring its success in other sectors like IT and manufacturing.
What the Future Holds for Drone Centres of Excellence in Odisha
Looking forward, the success of these centres lays the groundwork for further expansion across other rural areas of Odisha. The focus will be on scaling up, fostering local innovation in drone technology, and achieving international recognition. The vision is to make Odisha not just a participant but a leader in the global drone technology arena, harnessing the potential of its people and resources.
