A New Tech Park in Bhubaneswar is coming very soon near Damana Square. The state’s IT department is seeking 25 acres of land at Damana Square for the development of a new tech park.
Location for Tech Park Bhubaneswar
The proposed IT park at Damana Square is strategically located near the existing Infovalley, which has been a beacon for IT and ESDM (Electronics System Design and Manufacturing) companies since its conception in the early 2000s. Adjacent to a 100 ft road near Damana Square, the land was previously unutilized and originally allotted to the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA).
Addressing the Land Crunch for the IT Park
The demand for quality IT spaces in Bhubaneswar has been on an upward trajectory, fueled by interest from both domestic and international IT companies. However, the availability of suitable land has been a bottleneck.
Several IT giants like Deloitte, Cognizant, and Concentrix are currently operating from rented spaces across the city due to a lack of dedicated IT infrastructure. The IT park at Damana is planned to provide world-class infrastructure to meet these demands, thereby stimulating further investment and job creation in the sector.
Odisha’s IT Sector Witnesses Significant Boost
Bhubaneswar’s journey from a Tier-II city to an emerging IT hub is underscored by several key developments. At events like the Utkarsh Odisha Conclave, Odisha has secured investment intents amounting to over Rs 20,900 crore in IT/ITeS, electronics, semiconductors, data centers, and ancillary sectors.
Entities like SiCSem Pvt Ltd, RIR Power Ltd, and Heterogeneous Integrated Packaging Solutions Pvt Ltd are among those eagerly waiting for land to establish their operations, highlighting the city’s potential as a semiconductor and IT manufacturing hub.
Odisha’s Future with Tech Park Bhubaneswar
This initiative is part of a broader vision to position Odisha on the global IT map. The state aims to resolve the pressing shortage of quality IT spaces, which is crucial for attracting and retaining global IT firms. With companies like Zoho, Emmvee Photovoltaic Power, and VVDN Technologies showing interest, the IT park is expected to significantly enhance Odisha’s economic landscape by fostering employment and skill development.
Industry experts have cautioned that without adequate infrastructure, Odisha might lose out to cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Pune, known for their well-established IT parks and SEZs. The urgency to develop such infrastructure is driven by the fear of missing out on substantial investment opportunities that could elevate Odisha’s status in the IT sector.
Infovalley: Predecessor of the Upcoming IT Park
Infovalley itself was conceived to provide state-of-the-art facilities for IT and ESDM companies, aiming to replicate the success of Infocity, which hosts major IT corporations. The new tech park at Damana Square is seen as an extension of this vision, ensuring that Odisha does not just keep pace but leads in the IT revolution in Eastern India.
