Bhubaneswar to Have Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) Corridor. Starting April, the city will dedicate a vehicle-free corridor every morning from 5 AM to 7 AM, transforming key roads into vibrant community spaces. This initiative by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) aims to encourage a healthier lifestyle and promote sustainable urban mobility.
A Smart Move Towards a Healthier Bhubaneswar

The need for Bhubaneswar Non-Motorized Transport (NMT) and active mobility is crucial due to rise in urbanization. Inspired by the success of Patha Utsav, Bhubaneswar’s new Vehicle Free Corridor Project aligns with global smart city trends. The initiative promotes walking, cycling, skating, yoga, and social interactions in a safe, traffic-free environment.
By reclaiming roads for pedestrians, the city prioritizes public health, fitness, and community engagement. This vehicle-free corridor will provide a dedicated space for residents to embrace fitness without the hazards of vehicular pollution and traffic congestion.
What are the Criterias for Bhubaneswar Non-Motorized Transport Corridor and Different Stretches Identified?
The Corridors should be in close proximity of residential areas, these would be identified strategically by keeping in mind the absence of open spaces.
