ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) will be improving early childhood education in Odisha with the launch of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project, ‘Padhega Bharat’. This initiative reflects the company’s commitment to fostering sustainable development. On March 26, 2025, a Model Anganwadi Centre was inaugurated in Musadia village, Paradeep, aimed at enhancing the learning environment for children and supporting frontline workers in the Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) framework.
What is the Vision for Padhega Bharat?

The ‘Padhega Bharat’ project is designed with a clear purpose: to create a nurturing and engaging atmosphere for young learners while empowering those who care for them. The newly inaugurated Model Anganwadi Centre in Musadia is equipped with modern amenities such as play equipment, toilets, water filters for safe drinking water, essential furniture, preschool education kits, and nutri-gardens. These features aim to promote interactive learning, and improve hygiene practices. Additionally, Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials have been provided to support awareness and education efforts.
In collaboration with Humana People to People India (HPPI), AM/NS India plans to upgrade 25 existing Anganwadi centres across the Paradeep region into Model Anganwadis. The initiative focuses on improvements by offering hands-on training and capacity-building programs for frontline workers, including Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Anganwadi workers, and helpers. These sessions focus on nutrition and childcare practices, equipping them with the skills and motivation to enhance child development and maternal well-being. In its initial phase, two centres in Musadia and Singitali villages have been revamped, with plans to upgrade 23 more, benefiting over 500 students in the region.
Who are the Key Dignitaries Supporting this Initiative by AM/NS India?
The inauguration of the Musadia Model Anganwadi Centre was a moment of pride for the community, attended by over 300 women, including Anganwadi workers, helpers, and local residents. The event was graced by key dignitaries such as Bishnu Priya Sethi, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Jagatsinghpur; Rajashree Sahoo, Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), Kujang Block; Dr. Vikas Yadvendu, Head of CSR at AM/NS India; Sanjeev Bhatt, Development Director of HPPI; and Debendra Rout, Sarpanch of Nuagarh Panchayat. Their presence highlighted the collaborative effort between the company, the government, and the community. AM/NS India’s focus on creating a positive impact is evident in this initiative.
Humana People to People India’s Broader Work in Odisha

HPPI, the NGO partnering with AM/NS India, has a notable presence in Odisha, contributing to education and community development. Beyond the ‘Padhega Bharat’ project, HPPI runs the ‘Kadambini Women Empowerment Project’ in the state. This initiative focuses on empowering rural women through skill development, livelihood training, and health awareness programs. By addressing the needs of women and children, HPPI complements the goals of ‘Padhega Bharat’, creating a ripple effect of progress in underserved areas.
Other Notable CSR Efforts in Odisha
Odisha has seen several impactful CSR projects aligned with education and child welfare. For instance, Tata Steel’s ‘Project Rishta’ in the Jajpur district works to improve adolescent health and education, reaching thousands of students through school-based interventions. Similarly, Vedanta Limited’s ‘Nand Ghar’ initiative has modernized Anganwadis across the state, providing digital classrooms, nutrition support, and skill training for women. These efforts, alongside ‘Padhega Bharat’, highlight how corporate and NGO collaborations are shaping a brighter future for Odisha’s children.
