Koraput under the Aspirational Districts Programme (ADP) by NITI Aayog has been awarded ₹3 crore to accelerate its infrastructure initiatives, a milestone announced on February 26, 2025. This tribal-dominated district which was once identified for its slower progress in key social sectors is now setting a benchmark for sustainable growth. By focusing on connectivity, public facilities, and service delivery, Koraput is not only uplifting its rural and tribal communities.
Koraput’s Infrastructure Development Under ADP

Nestled in southern Odisha, Koraput is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant tribal heritage. Today it is gaining prominence for its remarkable progress under the Aspirational Districts Programme launched by the Government of India in January 2018.
The ADP targets 112 underdeveloped districts nationwide focusing on sectors like health, education, and infrastructure. Koraput once part of the historically challenged KBK (Koraput-Balangir-Kalahandi) region has secured the third position in the national ranking of aspirational districts and the top spot in the eastern zone.
The district’s success is evident in its improved connectivity through schemes like the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which has enhanced rural road networks, and the provision of Bharat Net connectivity across all 240 panchayats. Public facilities, including schools and healthcare centers, have also seen significant upgrades, while service delivery systems have become more efficient. NITI Aayog’s data underscores Koraput’s leadership. In November 2021 it topped the ADP’s education rankings and its recent infrastructure achievements as of February 2025 further cement its status as a “Champion of Change.”
How the ₹3 Crore Award Will Shape Koraput’s Future

The ₹3 crore award, granted by the Centre under the ADP is a proud moment for Koraput as stated by District Collector Keerthi Vasan V. Adopting advanced technologies to improve infrastructure efficiency, such as smart connectivity systems. Enhancing healthcare facilities, water supply, and educational institutions to meet growing demands. Expanding road networks, improving electricity access, and building community centers, particularly in rural areas.
Koraput’s infrastructure journey is an ongoing process, with visible impacts unfolding throughout 2025.

- Koraput Town: The administrative center benefits from improved educational and healthcare facilities.
- Rural Panchayats: Areas like Dasmantpur and Lamtaput, where PMGSY roads and Bharat Net connectivity have revolutionised tribal life.
How is Odisha’s Pride Koraput Leading the Way ?

Koraput with 10 of its districts under the ADP is a key player in this national initiative. Koraput’s third-place national ranking and top position in the eastern zone. In 2021, a UNDP appraisal ranked three Odisha districts—Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Rayagada among the top 20 aspirational districts.
Collector Keerthi Vasan V credited the district’s success to the collective efforts of the administration a sentiment echoed by NITI Aayog’s applause for Koraput’s role as a catalyst for progress. As Odisha aligns with the vision of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas aur Sabka Vishwas,” Koraput’s journey exemplifies how infrastructure can drive sustainable change.
