With the Puri Rath Yatra 2025 approaching, the state administration is leaving no stone unturned to ensure a smooth experience for millions of devotees. A standout feature of this year’s preparations is the operation of 365 special trains to connect Puri with various parts of Odisha and beyond. This railway network, discussed during the high-level coordination meeting chaired by Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) B. Parameswaran, will accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims. Additionally, special bus services will supplement the existing 130 regular buses, with parking facilities at Malatipatpur and Talabania. Digital train information boards, ticket vending machines, and video walls will further enhance convenience.
Prioritising Devotee Safety and Welfare
A significant announcement for Rath Yatra 2025 is the provision of ₹5 lakh insurance coverage for all devotees within Puri’s municipal limits during the festival. Advanced surveillance measures, including CCTV, drones, and AI-based cameras, will be deployed to monitor crowds and ensure security. The Bada Danda, the grand road where the chariots traverse, has been divided into 15 zones for efficient crowd and traffic management. Special arrangements include 5 to 7 designated spots for differently-abled devotees.
Progress of Chariot Construction for Puri Rath Yatra 2025
The construction of the majestic chariots for Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra is a sacred tradition. Against a requirement of 72 phassi logs, 76 have been procured. The inventory includes 26 ropes, 168 kg of resin, and 300 kg of sandalwood. Of the 865 wood pieces needed, significant deliveries have been made to the Khapuria sawmill and Ratha Khala, as reported by Shri Mandir Ritual Administrator Jitendra Sahu. These efforts, overseen by skilled artisans, ensure the chariots are ready for the grand procession.
Health & Sanitation Infrastructure Support
To cater to the health needs of devotees, a total of 140 additional hospital beds and 33 emergency medical centers will be set up, supported by the deployment of five food safety inspectors. Sanitation efforts are in full swing, with drain cleaning and measures to address waterlogging set to conclude by May 15. Drinking water facilities will be ensured at key locations, including the Shree Jagannath Temple and crowded areas. The electricity supply will be managed through three main grids and seven sub-grids, with Tata Power tasked with maintaining uninterrupted service.
Tech-Enabled Devotee Experience in Puri Rath Yatra 2025
Embracing technology, the administration is launching a dedicated mobile app and website for the Rath Yatra and Shree Jagannath Dham. These platforms will provide real-time updates, travel information, and festival schedules, enhancing the devotee experience. Additionally, a database for the Shree Jagannath Bana Prakalpa will streamline coordination, while interceptor cranes and disciplined police deployment will ensure smooth crowd management.
