On April 13, 2025, Bhubaneswar will mark its 77th Capital Foundation Day, commemorating the city’s establishment as Odisha’s capital on April 13, 1948. Known as Bhubaneswar Dibasa, this occasion celebrates the city’s journey from a planned urban center to a vibrant hub of culture, education, and progress. The Odisha government has planned a grand yet concise two-day celebration on April 13 and 14. With meticulous preparations underway, the event promises to engage citizens and honor the city’s rich legacy.
Planning of Bhubaneswar Dibasa 2025 with Precision
A high-level meeting, chaired by Development Commissioner-cum-Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg at Lok Seva Bhavan, finalized the event’s framework. Attendees included senior officials like Information & PR Department Principal Secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh, Works Department Principal Secretary Vir Vikram Yadav, and Bhubaneswar Development Authority Vice-Chairman N. Thirumala Naik, alongside members of the Capital Foundation Day Celebration Committee, led by senior journalist Pradosh Pattnaik. A separate review meeting at Capital High School, chaired by Additional District Magistrate Rudra Narayan Mohanty, focused on execution details, emphasizing public safety and participation.
Considering the summer heat, the festivities have been condensed from three days to two, a thoughtful decision to prioritize comfort. Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Additional Commissioner Shubendu Sahu briefed stakeholders on key arrangements, including law and order, drinking water, and lighting decorations for government and private buildings.
Civic Parade on 77th Capital Foundation Day
The celebrations will commence on April 13 with floral tributes at the foundation stone plaque near the Odisha Legislative Assembly, followed by a flag-hoisting ceremony. A highlight of Bhubaneswar Dibasa, the civic parade, will feature contingents of college students marching from Rabindra Mandap to Jayadev Bhawan. Unlike previous years, schoolchildren will not participate due to the heatwave, with only college-level students from government and private institutions showcasing their parade bands.
The parade will be complemented by traffic management measures to ensure smooth movement, allowing citizens to join the festivities without disruption. Authorities have also planned to clean and garland statues of eminent personalities across the city.
Bhubaneswar’s 77th Foundation Day: Celebrating Ama Rajdhani Through Art
The theme “Ama Rajdhani” (Our Capital) will resonate through cultural events, with students from schools and colleges participating in dance and singing competitions at Rabindra Mandap. These contests will celebrate Bhubaneswar’s heritage and spirit, offering young talents a platform to shine. In the evenings, Utkal Mandap will host cultural programs on both days, showcasing Odisha’s artistic traditions.
A photo exhibition highlighting Bhubaneswar’s journey from its ancient temples to modern infrastructure will be a key attraction. Curated to reflect the city’s heritage and progress, the display will also feature initiatives like traffic management, showcasing Bhubaneswar’s evolution as a smart city.
Encouraging Public Participation for Bhubaneswar Dibasa
The Capital Foundation Day Celebration Committee has emphasized maintaining the event’s dignity while encouraging public involvement. From students competing in cultural contests to citizens attending evening programs. Departments like Tourism, Culture, Higher Education, and School & Mass Education have collaborated to ensure seamless execution, while police administration will maintain order.
The festivities align with Odia Pakhya, a series of daily cultural programs from April 1 to 14, culminating in ‘A Day for Odia Cuisine’ and the New Year. As Bhubaneswar completes 77 years as Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar Dibasa 2025 offers an opportunity to celebrate its unique identity.
